About Native Instruments SuperStarSaw
SuperStarSaw is Native Instruments’ collaboration with A. G. Cook, the producer and PC Music founder whose stacked-sawtooth sound has become one of modern pop’s most recognizable textures. NI spent 2 years building it, working directly from Cook’s own patches and production sessions to turn that sound into something anyone can actually play, not just approximate with a generic supersaw preset.
It’s built for producers working in EDM, hyperpop, pop, trance, techno, or anywhere a dense, evolving lead or pad earns its place. At the core are 2 independent oscillator banks, each capable of running up to 16 detuned saws, for up to 32 layered oscillators per note. You can set the saw count, spread, width, and retrigger per bank, and an internal randomizer will throw out new configurations if you’re stuck.
The centerpiece is the 4-corner X/Y Morpher, which stores 4 completely different sound states in a single preset and lets you glide between them live, whether that’s building tension into a lead or just adding motion to a static pad. Chord, scale, and quantize tools keep the swarm musical even when you’re pushing it toward chaos, and built-in chorus, delay, and reverb mean you can get a mix-ready sound without reaching for external plugins first.
SuperStarSaw runs as VST3, AU, and AAX, or standalone, on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Windows 10/11. It integrates with Komplete Kontrol and Maschine hardware for automatic parameter mapping. It’s a single $99 purchase, no subscription, and Native Instruments typically offers a time-limited demo if you want to try before buying.
