About Arturia Pure SUB
Arturia builds a lot of synths that do a lot of things. Pure SUB does one thing: bass. It’s a response to how the low end has changed in modern production, where sub-bass isn’t background anymore, it’s the hook, the drop, the part people remember. Producers were already spending hours sculpting a single 808 or Reese bass using general-purpose synths never built for that job. Pure SUB is Arturia’s answer to that, joining a small but growing category alongside things like UVI Rumble and SubLab XL.
It’s built for anyone working in bass-heavy electronic music: dubstep, drum and bass, neuro, trap, techno, electro, any style where the low end carries real musical weight. If you mostly make pop, acoustic, or singer-songwriter material, this probably isn’t going to change your workflow much. But if you’ve been assembling bass patches by chaining together 3 or 4 general-purpose plugins, Pure SUB’s whole pitch is skipping that chain and starting with an instrument built around the problem directly.
The engine splits sound into 3 independently shaped layers: Sub (the fundamental, untouched by anything happening above it), Harmonics, and Texture. Each layer gets its own dedicated parameters before routing into a shared filter with over 40 modes, then a Sub Processor with 33 modes for distortion, tonal reshaping, and saturation. Sub Regen is the standout idea here: it restores the original fundamental after filtering and distortion, so you can push the harmonics and texture hard without the deepest part of the bass falling apart or losing definition.
Modulation runs deep for something this focused: 3 envelopes, 6 flexible modulator slots (envelope, function, random, step sequencer, voice modulators), full macro control, and MPE support for expressive playing. Modulators can even stack on each other, dragging one modulation onto another’s amount, so a single macro can trigger multiple things at once. A 12-slot FX Rack with 18 effects handles further processing, and a Maximiser at the end offers Soft and Hard modes plus EQ, compression, and multiband processing. There’s also a built-in randomizer that can reroll any stage of the instrument, oscillator, harmonics, texture, filter, even envelope shapes, for a fast way out of a creative block.
